Golden rays breaking through the first morning mist, warm summer days (without the stifling heat!), crisp nights, and a garden bursting with life—I simply adore August. Sure, the evenings are drawing in a little earlier now, but we can still enjoy being outside before retreating indoors to snuggle up on the couch. I’m honestly a little sad that the last “real” summer month has come to an end. So, let’s take one more look back.

It’s actually been almost a year since my last monthly recap. That bugs me, because I love rereading them myself—like a little diary. This time, though, I’m determined to get back into the habit and share these reflections more regularly.

What I’ve Been Up To:

This year, we played it smart: we went on our “summer vacation” back in May. Sunshine, ocean, sandy toes—all while it was still grey and chilly here in Bavaria. Which meant that by August, we were happily staying at home. And honestly? Best decision ever. My summer felt wonderfully long, and I had plenty of time to make the most of my garden harvest.

Alongside lazy afternoons outdoors, I spent hours preserving everything nature gave us. Cooking down tomato sauce, blanching and freezing Swiss chard and beans, drying herbs, baking plums and apples into cakes, and turning fruit into jams and compotes—pure bliss. And the best part? This kind of “meal prep” makes autumn so much easier. All I’ll need to do is open the freezer or pantry and voilà: homemade goodness, ready to enjoy.

Oh, and I even managed a quick trip back to my old stomping grounds in Munich.

My Fitness Routine

The absolute best thing I’ve been doing for myself lately? Getting back into a fitness groove. Before and during pregnancy, I worked out fairly regularly. Afterwards, I was motivated too—squeezing in workouts alongside my recovery program—but life as a new mom quickly took over.

Now, I carve out at least 15 to 45 minutes every evening for exercise. Mostly strength training with weights, plus some yoga and stretching. Next goal: rebuild my stamina! I used to be a passionate runner, and I’d love to get back into that rhythm. And really, these cooler late-summer days are perfect for it.

What I ate:

Garden-to-table everything! Homemade focaccia topped with my own tomatoes, colorful veggie stir-fries, crisp salads, and the sweetest corn—sautéed in butter, of course.

What I bought

Honestly, for more than two years now, I’ve hardly bought anything for myself—but plenty for the little one. August was no exception. 😉

What I watched

I, of course, devoured the first part of Wednesday’s second season. It’s one of my absolute favorite series—the perfect mix of intrigue (but not too scary!) and pure fun.
