When the leaves finally get colourful, a icy cold wind blows through the streets and the days are getting shorter, I somehow always want to escape to the mountains. This is where I am able to enjoy colourful nature one more time before it gets covered underneath a cold blanket of snow. One of my favourite destinations during this time of the year is the romantic town Filzmoos located at the Salzburger Land in Austria.
Filzmoos and the beautiful Salzburger Land
The state Salzburger Land is located in the middle of Austria and for sure one of the most varied and beautiful regions of the alps. No matter if a stroll through the city of Salzburg, small or big hiking tours, impressives gorges, castles and picturesque lakes – this area offers something for everyone. An in exactly this region lies the small town Filzmoos.
The town with about 1,500 inhabitant enchants the visitiors with its pretty houses, amazing views and warm hospitality. A perfect place to calm down and escape from the busy everyday life.
Autumn in Filzmoos: Activities and Enjoyment
Autumn in Filzmoos is the perfect time for hiking! If you prefer a more relaxed hiking tour, I recommend to walk about 1.5 hours from the town up to the mountain pastures (Almdorf) with an amazing view over the alps and the BischofmĂĽtze (a popular summit in the region). After reaching the mountin pastures, make sure to go a little further to visit the lovely small chapel as well as the pretty lake nearby. And then, it is time to have some delicious food! We always went to the Oberhofalm, where you will find some traditional Austrian food.
If you want to go on longer hiking tours, you will find many lovely trails around the town. The region is also great for bike tours, and in winter for skiing.
Accommodations in Filzmoos
In Filzmoos, you will find a lot of different accomodations – from hotels to holiday apartments and even holiday houses. We always stayed at the Alpenhotel Wurzer, by the way, which we really liked.
What else you can do at the Salzburger Land
From Filzmoos, you will reach the city Salzburg in about an hour. Salzburg is a wonderful city and definitely worth a visit!
If you are a nature fan, I also recommend to visit the impressive gorge Liechtensteinklamm as well as the Sigmund Thun Gorge. From there, Zell am See is not far – a lovely town located at the Zeller lake!
