Shoe Trend 2023: Mary Janes
In fashion, everything experiences a revival one day. This saying is actually true! Currently on the rise again: Mary Janes. The cute buckled or strappy shoes were worn by girls and women as early as the 1920s and got very fashionable in the 1960s, not least thanks to supermodel Twiggy, who preferred to wear this shoe model. Now the cute shoe is back in fashion and can be seen on the feet of all style icons in all fashion capitals.
Retro Shoe back in Fashion: Mary Janes
This shoe model was named after a comic book character, the sister of the main character of the American comic book Buster Brown by Richard Felton Outcault. Mary Janes traditionally only have a small heel, but are now also available as stylish platform shoes or high heels. The trend shoe is available both inexpensively at TopVintage*, for example, and in the luxury version at shops such as MyTheresa*.

How to style this Shoe Trend
I already owned such cute patent leather strappy shoes as a child. At that time I wore them on special occasions with frilly socks and a chic dress (also looks great on grown-up women, by the way!). In the meantime, however, the shoes have made the leap from going to church on Sundays to the biggest catwalks in the fashion capitals. Fashionistas wear them with hip outfits and XXL jeans. Those who like it more classic and retro like me, on the other hand, opt for mini skirts and dresses with a 60s look, cool 1920s looks or timeless midi skirts. And all fans of dark outfits simply take inspiration from Wednesday Addams. 😉
As you can see, these kind of shoes are incredibly versatile. They give fancy outfits the necessary dose of cuteness and round off classic looks perfectly. In addition, they are suitable for every season. In summer we wear them on their own, in autumn with nylon stockings, in winter with warm tights and in spring with cute socks.
