But why look so far afield when there is so much close at hand?
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Although it is possible to travel again in many countries, we decided to spend this summer at home in Bavaria. And when the city gets too hectic for us, we escape to the countryside and visit our parents. The wonderful mountain world, crystal clear lakes, and the beautiful Bavarian landscape make it easy for us to enjoy our days there. Long walks in the woods, trips to the mountains, a jump into the cold lake, and those relaxed days in the countryside make me feel like the so called “Sommerfrischler” from back in time.
But what should we wear when we want to feel comfortable, but still look good? In the following, I’m going to tell you what to keep in mind when choosing your outfits for the countryside, show you different looks for different occasions, and have a lot of outfit tips for romantic summer days in the countryside for you.

Outfit Tips for romantic Summer Days in the Countryside
Of course I try to choose appropriate clothes for my trips to the countryside. So most of the time, my looks are a bit less spectacular than my city outfits, but rather quite romantic and cheerful. I truly believe, by the way, you don’t have to wear functional clothing to visit the countryside, or go out for a walk. With keeping only a few simply tips and tricks in mind, you can look wonderful, while still feeling comfortable.
Dresses, Skirts, Tops and Jackets
When I’m in the countryside, I really love to wear folklore/traditional garments, but also like to simply team a wonderful skirt with romantic tops. My tip: Invest in a few really beautiful, high-quality skirts and tops that can easily be teamed with each other. So you have a variety of different outfits, but don’t need a lot of different garments. When it comes to patterns, I like classics like gingham, for example. For the colder days and nights, I recommend classy cardigans, or traditional knitted jackets.
At the end of the blogpost, I’m also going to show you many different outfit ideas. As you will see, I don’t wear a lot of different skirts and tops, but rather just style them differently.

Outfit Tips for romantic Summer Days in the Countryside: Appropriate Shoes
When it comes to shoes for the countryside, I first think of what I want to do on this day. For relaxed walks through the town or on paved paths, I like to wear wedges or ballet flats. In the woods, it depends a bit on the paths, and I either go for ballet flats or oxford shoes. When you want to go hiking in the mountains, of course you need appropriate hiking shoes! No ballet flats in the mountains, please. 😉
By the way: As I like to walk barefoot across the meadows, and dip my feet into cold streams, I usually don’t wear stockings in the countryside and rather save my beloved nylons for the city. 😉

Practical Handbags and lovely Backpacks
Whenever I’m in the countryside, I like to bring my straw and basket bags with me. They are so easy to combine and simply look great with more relaxed outfits. Plus: If you choose a straw bag with a shoulder strap, you have free hands to caress all the lovely animals. 🙂
For trips to the mountains or longer walks, I also recommend backpacks. I, for example, own a small leather backpack that can also be worn as a handbag and looks really lovely.

A natural Makeup
For my countryside looks, I prefer a more natural makeup and usually start with a CC Cream with high SPF and a little bit of powder for my nose. Then I apply some mascara, maybe a bit of eyeshadow, eyebrow powder, blush, and lipstick, of course. When it comes to lipsticks, I usually go for a classy red, but lately, I also really like a more natural rosewood colour. And very important: Don’t forget your sunscreen!

Outfit Ideas for relaxed Walks in Nature
For relaxed walks in nature or a stroll through the town, I like to wear a romantic outfit and usually choose a lovely skirt (like the ribbon skirt by Lena Hoschek, for example) in combination with a cheerful blouse or romantic top. Sometimes, I also wear a Dirndl or Dirndl inspired dress. When it comes to shoes, I go for comfy wedges or ballet flats.

Outfit Ideas for a Walk through the Woods
While it can be very humid and hot on sunny summer days in Bavaria, the climate in the woods always is pleasant. This is why I really enjoy long walks through the woods! And the best: Even in the forest, you can wear something pretty! I usually choose my normal skirts, or maybe some high-waist trousers, and blouses. When it comes to shoes, I definitely choose flats (depending on the path either ballet flats or loafers). (PS: I only wore the wedges you can see in the picture for the photo shoot. ;-))
Outfit Ideas for relaxed Hiking Tours in the Mountains
I think there isn’t a more beautiful way to enjoy the amazing alpine panorama than a relaxed hiking tour in the mountains. As I personally only use paved paths and never fixed-rope routes, I wear skirts even when I’m hiking. Thick tights protect my legs, and of course I wear proper shoes. PS: I personally prefer natural fibres, even when I’m doing a kind of workout. Plastic just doesn’t feel good on my skin…

Kitschy Outfit Ideas for romantic Summer Days in the Countryside
Sometimes, I like to wear delightful kitschy outfits in the countryside. So one day, I went to a castle ruin in heels (the path was paved), and on another day, I just wanted to sit on a water well in front of a chapel, wearing a circle skirt and pumps. But this actually is what I really enjoy about my “profession”: I can wear whatever I want, and don’t care anymore what others might think about my outfit choice. Most of the people, by the way, like the way I dress. 😉 But now, let’s have a look at those kitschy outfits.

And now, I’m very curious: What are your plans for this strange summer? Are going to stay at home? Are you going on summer vacation? Or are you just planning a trip to countryside, too?
